While using the free online version it first appeared as iff my side menu disappeared. after monkying with it for sometime to no avail, I noticed that the menu to left and bar at bottom is just scaled so mall I can barely see it. somehow I accidentally scaled them down in the process of building a model. any ideas how to get them back to normal (readable / useable) scale? I was able to use it on another browser, but I prefer to use chrome.
any assistance would be appreciated.
I’m new to Sketchup, so please forgive me if this is a silly question…I’ve built this corner hallway table, but I had trouble with the middle since I couldn’t push/pull the shape as easily because it didn’t have the 90 degree on the outside.
So I worked around it, but now I need a face and connecting the lines isn’t doing the trick…Help! Advice?
My supplier has told me that they cannot read DWG/DXF files exported by SKUP and send me the following note:
“the main problem is that all holes are not actual profiles but an union of lines and because of this our engineer always has to redraw everything and this may lead to errors.”
I took one of the exported files and passed it through AutoCAD’s online DXF viewer and the image produced looks ok.
Has anyone else seen the problem above? Is there an easy fix?
Did you know you can drag a link to a SU model directly from a forum thread into the model space of an open (desktop) iteration of SU? New one for me.
You can also drag the link to the SU Icon in the taskbar.
In trying to open an earlier revision of a model in trimble connect, received this message;
This file is not enabled for viewer based on the project configuration. To Enable viewing capability please contact connect-support@trimble.com. I have also tried to contact support@trimble to no avail. Has anyone else received this message and then had success with accessing their file. I am new to sketch up and trying out the free web version. Is this a problem people have encountered with the subscription versions?
Been annoyed by how layers work. Would like to see some of the functionality that’s similar in Illustrator (or any other software). The point of layering is that each layer is a container with content in them.
Grouping objects is the closest thing to making layers that sketchup has.
A quick easy fix would be to make it possible to have checkmark to importing layers as groups.
Have to say, the improvement list is staggering. But let’s start here.
I’m pretty new to SketchUp and in school we are supposed to have a final project about something. I love using SketchUp and therefore thought it would be a great idea to recreate the house I live in since I do have the blueprints for the house.
What approach do you think I should use? For example, what template should I use to start off? I used the architectural (millimeter) before for smaller projects but should I still use it when I design a big house or should I switch to meter?
So I am trying to divide an ellipse into 24 segments.
To do this, I tried creating lines for the center of the ellipse, but it does not evenly space the segments because an ellipse has several different radius points. The lines I drew came for one radius point at the center, and therefore does not evenly divide the ellipse.
I want the lines creating these segments to be perpendicular to the ellipse at each point, but I don’t know how to do this. Is there a way to rotate lines around an ellipse (multiple radius points) instead of a circle (one radius point)?
I am a current Sketch up Pro/Layout 17 user and want to know if I can interface and send models/drawings to Chief Architect users and they will be able to use?
I am relatively new to SketchUp and am having difficulty with getting my hardwood flooring texture to cover rooms with door swings (swings drawn in floor plan 2D). The floor covers up to and around the swings but not inside. I am pretty sure there is an extra surface where the door swings were drawn, but if I delete the surface I will have to match the floor.
Hello, I contacted Sketcup support and they were not able to give a definitive answer and suggested I post my question here.
Original question:
Hello, I am interested in purchasing Sketchup Pro. I am interested in using this software (along with a rendering plugin) to create photorealistic art frame mockups like this: https://creativemarket.com/PurpleVisions/694870-10-Contemporary-interior-MockUPs where the frame is a layered smart object photoshop element, yet blends perfectly within the scene with light and shadows. Would I be able to mimic this result with your software and render plugin by being able to add blank frames, and/or layered psd files, etc?
I would greatly appreciate any help and insight in answering my question.
Hi, I am experiencing some problems with the image that is imported from a vector file. i have created the faces, and it worked fine on the major part of the image, but there is one part that does not create shapes. I tried to redraw the lines by hand, the same result. When i choose “select binding edges”,only fe lines are selected. Attaching the screenshot. I spent a hole day today trying to resolve this problem. Any ideas?
Even when we work in millimetres as our base unit, we often want to know answers in metres. This is especially so in determining areas and volumes. But we tend to be presented with answers in the base unit and without separators which makes things difficult.
In the example below, the area is shown as 2955262013 mm². If that were shown as 2,955,262,013 mm², it would be much easier to see that it is 2,955 sq.m. But there’s possibly an even better solution. Why not have a drop down arrow beside the box that allows you to select the unit?
I am currently trying to model drain runs, and have found various components in the component warehouse, like these here by Stuart Patterson:
In real life one (eg a pipe part) would fit into another (eg a bend part). The components look like they are designed to fit togther in this way, but I cannot work out how to do this accurately
Conceptually the problem amounts to fitting one cylinder of a certain diameter into another of the same or lesser greater diameter.
One might imagine that a tool to do this might allow you to select one component, select the move tool, select a face on the component with the move tool, move the mouse to select an identical or smaller face to abut it to on the second component, then move it. Or one might do the same thing with edges that define a face. If one face were smaller (but the same shape) as another, it would by default be abutted symetrically within the other.
Does such a tool, procedure, or add-on exist? I have Sketchup Make 2017.
I have seen this discussion.
But the best solution seems to lie in the last post and I am not sure I understand it. THe video goes too fast and does not appear to be of a type where speed can be varied.
I would be very grateful for any help you can give.
Hi, used sketchup 2017 and made some models with the free trial, i do now wanna use them comercially, and my question is i already exported them, so if i go for sketchup shop wich is anually 119 dollar, can i then use the models i made with sketchup trial 2017, will be alot of work to export them again and then put them back in my game, 119 dollar is more afordable for me then 695 dollar, Thank You.
I have recently begun using SU2018 and all of my extensions (plug-ins) have not loaded. I cannot seem to find them on my computer in order to load them manually. I did find a few, unfortunately when I do a search they are not all found.
Hello, I am trying to figure out how to properly model a complex valute at the end of a handrail. the follow me tool doesn’t work as the profile gets twisted as it goes around the curve, not to mention the geometry doesn’t merge into itself when it connects to itself around the curve. (I hope this makes sense)
Attached it an image I found on the web for what I am trying to accomplish.
Hello, in my attached file, I wanted to be able to round the edges of the open rectangles. I tried using the 2 point arc but it is not working. Any help is sincerely appreciated.
A coworker of mine is trying to retexture a wood display. Her computer has been having issues recently so we can’t really figure out if it’s a graphics issue, tech issue, or a SketchUp issue.
The problem occurs when she creates a new texture, and tries to paint the surface. Instead of creating a new wood texture, it creates a solid color swatch in the Materials window and then paints that solid color. It’s created about 5 or 6 of these solid swatches.
I’ve never seen this happen before on either Mac or Windows. Any of you guys have ideas as to why it’s happening? She’s running a 2013 Mac Pro and those have graphics recalls on them so that could be the issue. She is also running without two of her RAM cards because we’re pretty sure one of them has failed so our IT guy has been messing with it the last couple days.
