Editing a group

When i edit a group, the contrast/brightness of the group lightens so much i have a difficult time working with it. when i close the group the color contrast returns to a viewable setting. Sure, my eyes are not what they use to be but is there anyway to not have the group change at all, or something so drastic?

I tried changing the styles, the only one that does not fade out is wire frame and that can sometimes be tough to work in.
